What Is Sterling Silver?

Sterling silver is the most affordable precious metal and has a bright white shine.  It is a soft, white precious metal that can be used for many things including making jewellery.  Pure silver is very soft and malleable.

Sterling silver used for jewellery is made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% of other alloys to give it the hardness needed to make jewellery.  This is the reason why Sterling Silver is popularly referred to as 925 Sterling Silver or just 925 Silver.

All modern silver jewellery is made using  .925 Sterling Silver and other .75 other alloys.

Sterling silver jewellery will be stamped with .925 to indicate the metal type and the content of silver.
